AfP held our latest edition of the Conversations with Extraordinary Women Speaker Series through our Women & Peacebuilding Affinity Group on January 31st. The discussion featured Fereshteh Forough from Afghanistan, an advocate of Afghan women’s literacy and a true believer in women’s empowerment through education and technology.

Ms. Forough spoke about her organization Code to Inspire and how it is changing lives of women and girls in Afghanistan. Despite the travel and social restrictions these women face, they are able to learn computer science skills that will allow them to work for some of the world’s largest tech companies. There is also hope that the women will soon create startups to help their local communities.
