imageAfP was delighted to host two of Peace Direct‘s local partners, Saba Ismail and Michael Olufemi Sodipo, on Marth 7th for a roundtable. Saba co-founded Aware Girls; a young women-led organization working in Pakistan for empowering young women by strengthening their leadership capacity. Michael is the Founder and Project Coordinator for the Peace Initiative Network (PIN) a Nigerian peacebuilding organization which since 2004 has been conducting a range of peace education, advocacy, and training activities in schools and through extracurricular programs in several northern Nigerian states.

Both peacebuilders emphasized their local-first approach to development. They also believe strongly in the power of youth programming to prevent and counter violent extremism where it is most prevalent. Saba and Michael would encourage the US government and all donors to invest in local organizations, who know best their own communities.
