The Alliance for Peacebuilding’s Statement on the Israel-Hamas Violent Conflict

Washington, DC, USA — The Alliance for Peacebuilding (AfP) calls on the United States, the greater international community, and all parties to the Israel-Hamas violent conflict to urgently work toward an immediate ceasefire, release all hostages in Gaza, address the growing humanitarian crisis, and eventually reach an inclusive and durable political solution.
The Israel Defense Forces’ airstrikes on Gaza have resulted in a death toll and humanitarian suffering that is unprecedented in the decades-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict. We agree with United Nations Secretary General António Guterres in his characterization that these actions constitute “clear violations” of humanitarian law. We also agree with the U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken who stated at the United Nations Security Council this week that "our core belief [is] that every civilian life is equally valuable. A civilian is a civilian is a civilian—no matter his or her nationality, ethnicity, age, gender, faith." He further stated that Palestinian civilians "must be protected" and food, water, and medicine must be allowed to flow into Gaza for the people who need it. And we agree with President Biden’s remarks yesterday that “when this crisis is over there has to be a vision of what comes next,” including “a two-state solution.”
