The Alliance for Peacebuilding has embarked on a three-year fundraising campaign to support its activities, including:

  1. Establish mechanisms for collaborative action in response to early warnings.
    • Scores of organizations gather and disseminate information on where violence is likely to erupt, but until now there is no systematic effort to mobilize collaborative action.
  2. Sustain the International Peace and Prosperity Project (IPPP) in the West African country of Guinea-Bissau.
    • IPPP is based on the notion that with help and encouragement, local people are better equipped to identify and solve their own problems than outsiders. After two years, the outlook for peace has improved, but the project must be sustained.
  3. Promote and support collaborative engagements in other at-risk countries based on the success in Guinea-Bissau.
  4. Build the Consortium for International Conflict Prevention (ICPC).
    • ICPC is a global network of peacebuilding professionals that is developing strategies to prevent violent conflicts.  It is also preparing a web site to indicate early warnings of potential violence from various competent sources.
  5. Develop and lead cooperative initiatives to share information, ideas, and strategies between governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental organizations.
  6. Further develop the field of conflict resolution and the application of that knowledge.

The Alliance is a 501 (c) 3 organization.  Contributions are tax deductible.

Individual Peacebuilders
The Alliance is seeking support from individuals who want to make a meaningful difference.  Peace partners are welcome to become directly connected with the projects they support.

Foundation Peacebuilders
We seek support from foundations interested in international issues such as human rights, social and economic development, governance, and the environment as well as conflict prevention and resolution.  Violent conflict impacts all of these concerns, and our collaborative approach addresses them.

Corporate Peacebuilders
We welcome support from corporations that are concerned about global stability and security, as well as human suffering.  Sustainable peace provides the climate required for sound investments and the development of new markets.

clear Retired corporate executive Milt Lauenstein

Retired corporate executive Milt Lauenstein is a peacebuilder.

He is shown here with and military leaders in Guinea-Bissau and Ben Hoffman of the International Peace and Prosperity Project.

Milt Lauenstein puts his head, his heart and his wealth into peacebuilding. He provided the inspiration as well as the funding for the International Peace and Prosperity Project in Guinea-Bissau and for the International Conflict Prevention Consortium. He is an ever-present source of ideas, guidance and support for these and other Alliance for Peacebuilding related initiatives. He also serves on the Alliance Board of Directors.

He describes his motivation as follows: "For most of my life, I have believed that mankind had the capacity to reduce the extent to which groups engage in killing each other. Finally, at age 75, I decided to devote my remaining years to trying to do something about it, daunting as the task seemed. Now, after 5 1/2 years of intensive study and work, and having sponsored a successful project to prevent violence, I am convinced that in fact we can prevent violence, and that building on that experience is the most cost-effective opportunity available for us to reduce human suffering."
