Concordis International (CI) Contact: Peter Dixon, Chief Executive Officer peter.dixon@concordis-international.org Concordis International works alongside those affected by armed conflict in the world, building consensus on the issues that divide and enabling them to create lasting peace and hope for their shared future. Rather than becoming involved in official peace negotiations, Concordis’ activity is best described as research-based Track 2 diplomacy, building relationships that pave the way for peace or contribute to post-conflict nation-building. The work is underpinned by values - such as justice and equity - that are shared by those of many faiths and traditions. Concordis International’s primary focus is on informal, low-profile consultations, held in a neutral venue out of the public and media eye, and attended by key individuals linked to their respective leaders and constituencies. The meetings are carefully constructed on a solid foundation of in-depth research into the structural causes of conflict and the economic and social factors to be considered for the establishment of sustainable peace. Working on the civil war in Sudan since 1999, Concordis contributed to the signing of the peace accord between the government and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army; subsequently, Concordis has been bringing Sudanese from all sides together to build long-term peace. Ongoing regional work is (a) helping Darfurians work towards solutions to the issues underlying their conflict and (b) developing the capacity for constructive negotiation of the Eastern Sudanese rebel groups. Other projects in the preparation stage include the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Afghanistan and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
