The Alan B. Slifka Program in Intercommunal Coexistence at Brandeis University is a program of the International Center for Ethics, Justice and Public Life. Its purpose is to generate and disseminate knowledge useful to practitioners of coexistence and related fields, and to engage students and other members of the larger Brandeis community in the theory and practice of coexistence.
The Slifka Program in Intercommunal Coexistence consists of four mutually reinforcing components:
- Master's Program in Coexistence and Conflict: Directed by Dr. Mari Fitzduff. This is a graduate program designed particularly for mid-career professionals wishing to expand their skills in coexistence and conflict resolution skills.
- Coexistence Research and International Collaboration: Directed by Dr. Cynthia Cohen. This outreach component maintains the virtual resource center Creative Approaches to Coexistence and Reconciliation and engages in collaborative projects on the Brandeis campus and with partner organizations throughout the world.
- Coexistence International: Managed by Jessica Berns. This program works to strengthen the effectiveness of policy-makers, practitioners, researchers, advocates, organizations, and networks promoting coexistence at local, national, and international levels.
- Peace, Conflict, and Coexistence Studies (PAX): Directed by Professor Gordon Fellman, Sociology. This is an undergraduate minor for Brandeis students who wish to understand reasons for war and possible ways of resolving conflicts without resorting to violence.
