Ensuring Food Security in the Midst of COVID While Building A More Equitable Food System for All.

In conversation with Sayrah Namaste, AFCS's New Mexico Program Co-Director, this video introduces the American Friends Service Committee's (AFSC) Farmers to Foodbanks program. This video further highlights how the program was able to address the needs of the community in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and simultaneously leverage the situation to re-imagine a better food distribution system for all, especially post the pandemic. Through this program, high quality, good food was accessible to all, including those who most needed it, regardless of income levels.

Demonstrative of the success of the program, they were contacted by policy groups to learn how this approach could inform food policy, by other cities to see how this program could be replicated in other locations, and by FEMA to explore collaborative opportunities to amplify this work. Watch this video to learn more about how the food distribution system could sustain livelihoods, address emerging needs in communities, while also tackling key issues such a climate change.

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, changing landscapes and virtual realities are challenges that we all are encountering, not only on a personal but also on an organizational level. Join AfP as we highlight innovative approaches to tackle these implications, highlighting the methodology used, results obtained, limitations faced, and lessons learned.
