While conflict exists everywhere, we do not have to accept that violent conflict is inevitable. The Alliance for Peacebuilding’s (AfP) robust, committed, and growing community proves that violent conflict is not inevitable and building peace is possible in faraway places and in neighborhoods just down the street. But to meet these challenges, the field must demand and develop new global peacebuilding architectures for today and tomorrow.
We are the Alliance for:
Accelerating collective action through collaboration and exchange
Advocating for policies, laws, and funding to advance the peacebuilding field
Advancing the peacebuilding field through stronger evidence and standards
Changing social norms and behaviors
Widespread violent conflict and fragility represent one of the most complex, urgent challenges facing the world. 2025 marked the 12th consecutive year that global peacefulness deteriorated. Conflicts between states are at the highest levels since World War II. The scale and complexity of violent conflicts are accelerating, and interstate wars are destabilizing entire regions and threatening global economic and energy security. Additionally, authoritarianism is rising, civic space is shrinking, and previously stable countries like the U.S. and other Global North countries in Europe are experiencing increasing instability and political violence.
The Alliance for Peacebuilding (AfP), named the “number one influencer and change agent” among peacebuilding institutions worldwide, is an award-winning nonprofit and nonpartisan network of more than 300 organizations working in 181 countries to prevent and reduce violent conflict and build sustainable peace. AfP cultivates a network to strengthen and advance the peacebuilding field, enabling peacebuilding organizations to achieve greater impact—tackling issues too large for any one organization to address alone.
AfP’s 200+ member organizations are working in 181 countries from 2020 - 2021
Vision
A world where all citizens and sectors, governments, multilateral organizations, and corporations are global champions for building sustainable peace and preventing violent conflict. We strive for a fundamental change in policies, development assistance, and collective action so that peacebuilding and conflict and atrocities prevention are the tools of first resort, resulting in cutting the number of fragile states and violent conflict globally in half by 2035.
