Launch of the 2022 Global Peace Index

On Wednesday, June 15th at 10am ET, please join AfP for the public launch of the Institute for Economics and Peace’s (IEP) 2022 Global Peace Index (GPI)—the world’s leading measure of global peacefulness. The launch will feature a dynamic, high-level panel to explore the compounding effects of conflict, COVID, and climate change and rising instability globally. The conversation will also dive into the importance of peacebuilding and conflict prevention programming to address these challenges and build sustainable peace, based on the GPI’s data-driven analysis of trends in peace. The event will feature:

The event will include a presentation of the 2022 Global Peace Index by IEP’s Michael Collins, followed by a panel discussion and an audience Q&A session.

About the Speakers:

  • Liz Hume, Executive Director, Alliance for Peacebuilding (moderator)

    • Liz is a conflict expert and has more than 20 years of experience in senior leadership positions in bilateral, multilateral institutions and NGOs. She has extensive experience in policy and advocacy and overseeing sizeable and complex peacebuilding programs in conflict-affected and fragile states in Asia, Eastern Europe and Africa.

  • Michael Collins, Executive Director, The Americas, Institute for Economics & Peace

    • Michael develops working partnerships with Americas-based governments, civil society organizations, foundations, universities, businesses and think tanks and seeks new opportunities to build IEP’s presence and impact throughout the Americas, with particular focus on expanding the use of IEP’s Positive Peace Framework as a training tool and an evidence-based metric for peace-centered development. Before joining IEP, Michael oversaw educational, job creation and economic development programs in emerging nations recovering from natural disasters, working frequently with communities affected by poverty and gang violence.

  • Rob Jenkins, Assistant to the Administrator, USAID

    • Robert Jenkins serves as Assistant to the Administrator for the Bureau for Conflict Prevention and Stabilization (CPS). A career member of the Senior Executive Service, Mr. Jenkins was previously a Deputy Assistant Administrator for the Bureau for Democracy, Conflict, and Humanitarian Assistance (DCHA) and the Director of USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI). Prior to joining USAID in 1998, Mr. Jenkins designed and implemented emergency relief and recovery programs with World Vision International in southern Sudan and Sierra Leone. As a Thomas J. Watson Fellow, he worked under Archbishop Desmond Tutu in Cape Town, South Africa, as a liaison between the Anglican Church’s peace and justice office and township communities.

  • Mike Jobbins, Vice President for Global Affairs and Partnerships

    • Mike Jobbins leads Global Affairs and Partnerships at Search for Common Ground. He joined Search in 2008 and has designed, developed and managed conflict resolution, violence prevention, and inclusive governance programs. Mike leads Search’s advocacy and partnerships with U.S. and European governments, the private sector and NGO partners. Mike was Senior Program Manager for Search’s Africa Region, where he led the design and development of programs in 22 countries across the continent, including Search’s programs responding to state collapse in South Sudan, violent extremism in the Sahel, the civil conflict in the Central African Republic and the Cote d’Ivoire elections crisis. Before returning to Washington, he was a program manager with Search for Common Ground in the DRC and program officer in its Burundi regional office, where he oversaw the start-up and management of election, security sector, and complex emergencies programs.

  • Prabha Sankaranarayan, President & CEO, Mediators Beyond Borders International

    • Prabha Sankaranarayan is the President and CEO of Mediators Beyond Borders International, (https://mediatorsbeyondborders.org/) an international impact organization whose mission is to build local skills for peace and promote mediation worldwide. She is committed to partnership, as evidenced by the organization’s collaboration with over 130 organizations globally. She co/leads MBBI’s recent partnership with Rotary International, a global network of 1.2 million members, with NAFCM, a North American network of over 300 mediation centers and the recently formed TRUST Network the first Early Warning and Response platform in the USA.
