Religious Leadership in the 21st century: the Role of Religious Leaders and Multifaith Collaboration in Addressing Global Crises

  • 1800 Massachusetts Ave NW Suite 401 Washington, DC United States (map)

If we want to build more peaceful and resilient societies, we need inclusive, participatory, whole-of-society programs that engage the broad community. Involving religious actors in building inclusive peace is highly strategic. Faith actors are key leaders and influencers in building peace. They are often in positions of trust and influence and play a vital role in building resilience, including amplifying messages to change behaviors, shaping public attitudes, providing social programming, advocating for social justice, and bridging political or societal divides.

But what do effective religious leadership and multi faith movements look like in reality? Join Pax Christi International and the Alliance for Peacebuilding to learn more. We will be joined by Evgeny Afineevsky, Oscar-Nominated Director of the documentary film Francesco, that gives viewers a close look at the leadership role Pope Francis plays in addressing and drawing attention to a multitude of crises afflicting our world—including climate change, refugee and migrant rights, and interreligious collaboration in deeply divided societies. We will talk to Evgeny Afineevsky about his motivations for creating a film about Pope Francis' leadership on these issues.

We will also be joined by a group of esteemed speakers, including:

  • Azza Karam: General Secretary, Religions for Peace

  • H.E. Michel Sabbah: Patriarch Emeritus of Jerusalem

  • Tahil Sharma: Regional Coordinator, United Religions Initiative

  • Marie Dennis: Pax Christi International (Moderator)
